Book Review: The Better Mother

I read The Better Mother by Jennifer van der Kleut earlier this summer, and two months later, it’s still stuck with me. To me, that’s always a pretty good sign that a book is worth recommending.
The story follows Savannah, who becomes pregnant after a casual fling with Max. Things get complicated when Max gets back together with his serious girlfriend, Madison.
What made this book so compelling for me was the characters. Savannah is imperfect but authentic and incredibly easy to root for. You can’t help but cheer her on as she tries to navigate everything that’s been thrown at her.
Max is an enigma, too. You’re never quite sure where his loyalty is going to lie, which made it so much fun to keep guessing what he would do next.
And then there’s Madison, who might have been my favorite part of the book.
She’s the perfect villain: cunning, calculating and willing to put her own interests first. She kept me wondering just how far she was willing to go.
Overall, The Better Mother was such a fun, easy read and a total page-turner. It kept me reading and, more importantly, it stayed with me long after I finished it.
Definitely check this one out if you’re looking for a compulsively readable thriller with characters you’ll want to keep watching.
